NEW MUSIC: Critical Condition – Hal Linton feat. Shontelle

    Monday, February 20th, 2012

StarTrident: Barbadian singers Hal Linton and Shontelle teamed up to produce ‘Critical Condition’ which is the first track from Linton’s upcoming mixtape ‘Technicolor.’ It has been a while since these two teamed up on a track, but the wait was well worth it.

The song debuted on Valentine’s Day and tells the story of a love desired. “I need someone to love me, love me” sings the Barbadian born Soul/R&B singer Hal Linton In a husky voice. It’s a smooth and slow R&B track, which proves Linton’s vocal ability.

The ever so preppy Shontelle adds her verse to the sonic piece singing, “touch me like you, touch me like you love me, do me like you, do me like you love me … “ Which gives Linton the opportunity to find that someone he wants to love.

Let’s hope that ‘Technicolor’ Is full of similar tracks because if this holds true, Linton’s mixtape will be a smash hit.

Concert Review: Shontelle @ Tanger Outlets in Deer Park

    Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

shontelleLast Saturday the audience at Tanger Outlets witnessed quite a treat. International pop star Shontelle, performed a free concert for her adoring fans.

It was a fantastic concert as Shontelle lit up the stage with a slew of hits ranging from her early work such as, “T-Shirt” to her international smash hit “Impossible”. The fans took in every moment of it. Even some of her Barbados brethren came out to support her.

Decked out in her limited edition Rodrigo Otazu hat and jewelry, she definitely fit the part of a diva. Her outfit was equally spectacular as it was a one piece body suit that seemed to be custom designed just for her.

As Shontelle said in an interview backstage, “This jewelry is very special. He (Rodrigo) does jewelry for so many people and this hat is one of a kind. He does jewelry for Lady Gaga and Rihanna, so it’s a really cool piece.”

The hat and rings were some pieces of artwork as well. The hat was a fully bedazzled out, military style hat with reflective silver going all around it. However there was a bit of a bigger meaning behind the style of her hat. (more…)

DigitalSpy Single Review: Shontelle – Perfect Nightmare

    Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

shontelle“Sometimes we fight/ Sometimes I cry/ Why don’t I just tell him goodbye?” Shontelle croons on the opening verse of her new single and what sounds like a cracking set up for a ballad. “I don’t ever wanna leave him alone/ They say I’m brainwashed but I’m in love,” she continues, cueing up a powerful, tear-jerker of a chorus…

Hang on, this is a dance track?! As she wrestles over her conflicting affections for a bad boy lover over a haunting piano riff, the track bursts open at the 1m15s mark and seamlessly transforms into a hectic R&B-dance number with a bongo beat that canters along as relentlessly as a thoroughbred racehorse. “No way, no way, no way!” she insists about taking the dodgy fella back. C’mere Shonts, we’ll get the Horlicks on and you can tell us all about it. (rated 4 stars)

    Shontelle @ Hot 107.1 FM’s ‘Perfect 10 Party’ (Denver)

    Sunday, November 7th, 2010

    shontelle

Lavish was jam-packed with people eager to see Shontelle perform for the Hot 107.1 Perfect Ten party on 10/10/10. Throughout the evening, Hot 107.1 announced special giveaways until it was time for Shontelle to perform. Her set included hit songs from her new album “No Gravity.” High heels and tiny dresses were the order of the night and everyone was looking smoking hot. Guys showed up in their nicest button-downs and ready to get their dance on. Shontelle was definitely dressed to the “10s” wearing her Chanel thigh high boots.

Suspense amplified while Shontelle was preparing to enter the Hot 107.1 stage. DJ Sugga Slick mixed her tunes to accompany her vocals. The moment she got on stage her fans went wild. Shontelle performed her number one his “Impossible” and expressed how much she appreciates her fans. At one point a man in the audience yelled “I love you” and she knelt down and kissed him. She is full of excitement and compassion it was completely contagious to everyone there.

Shontelle continued to sing while her fans sang along. Smiles took over the faces of the starstruck audience. Her voice was beautiful and she gave it her all at the exceptionally intimate venue. As the night continued Shontelle did meet some of her fans in the VIP section. Lavish’s dance floor was hopping until bar close. Denver hopes it is not impossible for the rising star, Shontelle, to return soon.

DigitalSpy: Shontelle – Impossible (UK Review)

    Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

shontelleShontelle recently told DigitalSpy that she was “living” the heartbreak-filled lyrics of ‘Impossible‘ and it’s safe to presume she’s not alone. A year and a half since the likeable-but-still-slightly-aggravating ‘T-Shirt’ hit the top ten, the Bajan songbird is back with a more mature sound – one that’s already paid off, as this Whitney-sized tale of heartbreak has become her biggest hit yet across the pond.

It’s not tricky to see why, with everyone involved in ‘Impossible’ delivering like they’ve got Sue Sylvester’s protein shake-scented breath warming their necks. Arnthor Birgisson’s Stargate-style production has a very appealingly restrained, Ina Wroldsen’s lyrics are blunt and utterly relatable, and Shontelle gives her strongest vocal performance yet without ever overdoing it. The result? A treat for everyone except the peeps at Greenpeace, who might not approve of a song that requires at least two Kleenex mansize every time you play it.

Impossible is due to release on UK Amazon & iTunes, September 9th.

Shontelle performs for ‘Sold Out’ Back2College Concert

    Friday, August 27th, 2010

    shontelle

Shontelle and her band performed at a ‘Back2College’ concert in Utica (NY) last night, to a sold out audience! The catch about this particular gig was that literally hours afterwards, we received tons of emails from people showing support and say how “amazing” it was.

According to the stories we’ve been getting, she must’ve really put on a good show! The setlist  (in no particular order) was “Licky”, “Say Hello to Goodbye”, “Perfect Nightmare”, “No Gravity”, “DJ Made Me Do It”, “Impossible” – mixed “T-Shirt” with a little bit of “Your Love” by Nicki Minaj and also did a little covers/sing-a-long section with short clips of “Airplanes” , “Rude Boy”, “Love the Way You Lie”, “OMG”, “I Gotta Feelin’”, and “Love is Gone”.

So far we’ve managed to get hold of a great performance clip of SHTG that was sent to us, hopefully more videos from the concert surface soon. Keep checking back for more! But in the mean time, watch the videos below shot from great angles, thanks to the videographer Tone Spliff and Matt Musacchio.

Concert Review: Shontelle @ Rock The Rapids (Michigan)

    Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Below is an extract taken from the Michigan Press review of “Rock The Rapids 2010″

shontelle[...] At Tuesday’s “Rock The Rapids” show in Michigan, 6,677+ mostly tweens and teens — who might be solely directing and funding the music industry — crowded the stands to fist pump in dramatic unison to their favorite summer hits.

A sound system that could have been clearer and consistent issues with feedback throughout the evening — which were at their worst during the headliner’s set — would have knocked this review down a notch had it not been for the powerful performance by B.o.B., the hardy pipes of rising R&B beauty Shontelle and the intricate rhymes and varied beats of drummer/rapper duo Chiddy Bang.

The bulk of both B.o.B. and Chiddy Bang’s sets were filled with solid hip-hop tunes anchored with versatility. Of course, the crowd came for their radio-friendly hits featuring catchy, melodic choruses. But the excitement for young people of seeing the faces that match the songs they’ve come to love for a few months kept energy high throughout the entire evening.

Pop/R&B Barbadian newcomer Shontelle, clad in a sparkling, rainbow-colored romper of sorts, was a welcome relief to the male-dominated lineup. Her hits “T-Shirt” and “Impossible” made the set. But for whatever reason, she only sang two additional tunes for a total of a 15-minute set.

I would have taken a longer Shontelle performance and a shortened Baby Bash set, which featured the on-again-off-again reggae/dancehall rapper mostly shouting spare lyrics to loud tracks of his hits, which, granted, are many. [...]

Billboard Single Review: Shontelle – Impossible

    Saturday, June 19th, 2010

    shontelle

    ARTIST: SHONTELLE

    SINGLE: IMPOSSIBLE (SRP/SRC/Universal Motown)

Barbadian singer Shontelle shines on “Impossible,” giving one of the year’s standout female vocal performances and recalling the poignancy and technical precision of Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable.” Shontelle already earned a top 40 entry in 2008 with “T-Shirt,” but this arresting midtempo ballad is now the bigger hit of the two.

The 24-year-old’s vulnerable delivery demands attention when she sings, “Tell them all I know now, shout it from the rooftops/Write it on the skyline/All we had is gone now,” releasing the pain of a broken heart. A gentle piano melody, acoustic guitar line, simple drumbeat and light synth production support a stunning melody co-written by Swedish producer Arnthor Birgisson (Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson) and Norwegian singer-songwriter Ina Wroldsen, who also supplies backing vocals.
