Above is a small sneak peek of Shontelle on the set of her “Impossible” videoshoot! It was shot in L.A yesterday with director TAJ, the lead man for the video was singer/model Steph Jones. Much more exclusive sneak peeks and footage coming soon…
Shontelle Layne didn’t burst onto the music scene, rather she tiptoed in with her sweet vocals on her initial single T-Shirt in 2008. Since then, it’s been an uphill ride, taking Shontelle around the world and back again on tours with mega-stars including Akon, New Kids On The Block and the incomparable Beyonce.
Signed to SRC/Motown, the beauty-from-the-Barbados is poised to follow-up her debut album Shontelligence with a more confident, more defining and more fulfilling sophomore project simply titled No Gravity. Her new single is riding up the airwaves (Impossible), and her story is a testament to the meaning of the song – that nothing is impossible.
With so much to her credit, one might expect major ego and reservation – but to the contrary, Shontelle was very open, down-to-earth and very excited about her new project, as was I. She took questions from some special Twitter followers and even gave me the lowdown on her obsession with beating bloggers in Mario Kart! Peep the interview below!
Heatwave Interactive, a Texas online game startup, is launching its Platinum Life Web Edition game today as a beta test on Facebook.
The game is a kind of music career role-playing game, where the player starts out as an aspiring hip-hop star. You start out as a nobody selling mix tapes out of your car trunk and try to become a platinum-level superstar like T.I. or P. Diddy. Anthony Castoro, chief executive of the Austin company, said Heatwave is still working on a massively multiplayer online version of the game for the PC and consoles.
But in the meantime, the company is testing new ideas and sampling the experience through the Facebook version. In a couple of weeks, a MySpace version will also debut.
The game is about moving from the mean streets to the penthouse suite. You start by creating a character and customizing it. You earn points along the way that allow you to buy clothing. The more stylish it is, the more you build your celebrity status. You can battle other bands in concerts. And you can explore the careers of other hip-artists such as Ludacris, DJ Holiday, Shontelle, DJ Skee and Omarion. You have to go on missions that earn you points, like getting noticed by the paparazzi at the right restaurant. You can collect swag at events and earn points through hip-hop trivia tests. You can also invite your friends to join and turn them into parts of your entourage, such as a “hype master” or bodyguard.

Luxury plane; my head between noise-canceling headphones… Just felt inspired to write on this ( 20 hr? ) trip to Brunei. Maybe it’s Susan Boyle’s voice of silk singing to me. In case you didn’t know, Brunei is a beautiful Island? in South East Asia completely surrounded by Malaysia. As I type, I lay fully reclined in lavish style, 1 glass of Champagne down, a glass of Malbec and endless exotic fruit & gourmet chocolates & cheeses in my cubicle (and so much more), all courtesy of Prince Azim. – Google him! – I’ll never forget the moment we met.
I was on a major tour in the UK and he dropped by the O2 Arena unexpectedly to say hello. What a pleasant surprise. I was truly fascinated by his aura, despite the fact that our chance meeting was all but an ordinary “hang” with a bunch of “homies.” It’s not everyday that a girl from Barbados gets to be in the presence of Royalty. I had quite a blast meeting the Prince and his mates in London and we turned my dressing room into mini party of sorts. Which leads us to this day, Feb 18th, 2010. I’m on a jet! (a la The Lonely Island?) LUSH
Prince Azim must have enjoyed our time together as much as I did, to my delight, since after all this time, he has remembered me and so graciously extended and invitation to myself and friends, to attend a very special private party. I’m not sure “humbled” is the right word to describe my emotions at the moment. It’s deeper than that. Though I consider myself quite a cultured girl (I have some special people in my life to thank for that) I have no idea what to do in the presence of Royalty but I’m sure after this experience I’ll be quite well “seasoned” for want of a better word.
I’ll take tons of pics & footage while I’m in Brunei to share this wonderful dream of an experience with you all. We’re going in transit through Singapore. Hopefully we’ll get to explore a bit while we’re there too! Excited much? YES! I’m hyped! I brought my DJ, Shortman with me so you already what it’s gonna be. We’ll keep you guys fully entertained no doubt with fun updates as usual.
Special thanks to YEOHLEE, Alexander Berardi and SUNO for the fab designs. I’m excited to sport them around Brunei.
My most humble thanks and gratitude goes to Prince Azim and the entire Royal family of the Sultanate of Brunei for all of the good times we are about to share.
Shontelle stopped in to hang with Josh Strickland on 97.5 NOW FM and called her on talkin’ big about her hoola hooping expertise. How’d it turn out? Listen to it below:
